JUNE 27th NORFOLK (32-49) at PAWTUCKET (41-41) 7:05 pm

Norfolk Tides RHP Mike Wright (1-6, 6.32) vs. Pawtucket Red Sox RHP Allen Webster (3-4, 2.97)

Nice Knowing You – The Pawtucket Red Sox – winners of 2 in a row, 3 of 4, and 12 of their last 20 games since June 6 – play the Norfolk Tides for the final time this year when they conclude their season-series tonight at 7:05 pm at McCoy Stadium in the finale of this current 4-game set. The PawSox have won 2 of the first 3 games during this series and are looking to return the favor by taking 3 of 4 from the Tides after Norfolk won 3 of 4 against the PawSox earlier this month (May 30 – June 2). Pawtucket needs a win tonight to even the season-series at 4-4 as they currently trail 3-4 with one more game on tap. Norfolk will be the third different team that Pawtucket will be done with this season following Indianapolis (3-5) and Louisville (6-2) which were the first two teams the PawSox finished with this year.

This Series – Last night the PawSox rolled to a 7-3 victory to gain the upper hand in this series. On Wednesday evening the Sox scored a season–high 16 runs in their 16-5 rout of Norfolk after the Sox suffered a tough loss on Tuesday night in the series and homestand opener in a 9-6 defeat in 10-innings to the Tides.

Threepeat? – Pawtucket tries to win three in a row tonight for only the third time all season. They won 3 straight earlier this month from June 6-8 and they had a season-high 4-game winning streak back from April 13-17. Besides those the Sox have won back-to-back games 9 other times this season (not including this current 2-game winning streak) and they have lost their next game each of those previous 9 times.

Try Again to Get Over the Hump – The PawSox are back at the .500 mark with their 41-41 record. Pawtucket has not been over .500 since May 23 (when they were 25-24). The last 8 times the Sox have been at .500 from May 24 – June 20 they have lost their next game. They will attempt to break that trend tonight. Furthermore, Pawtucket is currently two-games over the .500 mark at McCoy Stadium with a 22-20 home record. They have not been 3-games above .500 at McCoy all season.

Batting Around – Pawtucket has scored 29 runs in their last 3 games and they have scored 4 runs or more in 5 consecutive games for only the second time all year (the other coming from April 25-29 when they also scored 4+ runs in 5 straight games). The PawSox have pounded out 35 hits (good for those 29 runs) in their last three games including 9 doubles, 2 triples, and 5 HR. As a result their team batting average has risen from .239 three days ago to .242. It was .243 on Wednesday which was their highest since April 29 when they were also at .243. They were at .244 on April 23.

This Homestand – The PawSox are 2-1 on this 10-game homestand which is their longest homestand in 16 years. The Sox have not had a homestand of 10 or more games since an 11-game homestand from June 16-26 of 1998 when they hosted Charlotte (5 games), Norfolk (4 games), and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (2 games). Pawtucket went 5-6 during that homestand. During this scheduled 10-game homestand they are facing the Norfolk Tides for 4-games concluding tonight, followed by a 4-game series against the Durham Bulls (in a rematch of the 2013 Governors’ Cup Finals) starting tomorrow (Saturday) through next Tuesday, July 1 (fireworks follow the finale of that series), and finally a 2-game set against the Rochester Red Wings next week on July 2 & 3 (with fireworks to follow both of those).
