GRAPEFRUIT STAND: The Red Sox are 13-10-1 (.565) in Grapefruit League play, T-2nd in the GL standings behind only the Mets (.593, 16-11)…The 13 wins are 2 more than their 2014 GL total (11-17-2)…Boston is 4-2-1 in its last 6 games but has dropped 5 of its last 11 (5-5-1). Boston has won 13 of its last 22 games beginning with a 7-game winning streak over 6 days from 3/7- 12…The win streak was Boston’s longest in spring training since a 7-gamer in 2009…The club last produced a longer win streak in spring training with a 9-game tear in 1981 (Source: Bill Nowlin – SABR).

CHAIRMAN’S CUP CONTINUED: The Red Sox and Twins match up today for the 5th of 9 times this spring as they battle for the Chairman’s Cup (formerly Mayor’s Cup)…Bos- ton leads the series 3-games-to-1. Before last year’s series ended in an unprecedented tie (3-games-to-3), Boston had taken 6 of 7 the previous Cup titles, including both 2012 and 2013… Prior to that 7-gear stretch, the Twins won 10 of the first 14 series from 1993-2006. This cross-county rivalry is in its 23rd season, with Minnesota holding an 11-10-1 advantage over Boston all-time…The Twins have a 65-61-1 edge in those contests.

WALKING OFF AGAIN: The Red Sox defeated the Rays yesterday at JetBlue Park, winning 3-2 on a walk-off single by Deven Marrero that scored Rusney Castillo from third base with 2 out in the bottom of the 10th inning…It was Boston’s third walk-off win of the season, also 3/26 vs. MIN and 3/16 vs. NYM. Pablo Sandoval (1-for-3, R, 2B) and Mike Napoli (1- for-1, 2B, RBI) hit back-to-back doubles to produce the Red Sox’ first run in the 4th inning…Rusney Castillo (1-for-2, 2 R) scored the club’s last 2 runs in the 8th and 10th innings…Daniel Nava (2-for-2) had the club’s only multi-hit game. Brian Johnson started and allowed 2 runs in 4.0 innings…Dalier Hinojosa (2.0 IP), Edward Mujica (1.0 IP), Tommy Layne (1.0 IP), Junichi Tazawa (1.0 IP), and Jesse Todd (W, 1.0 IP) combined for scoreless relief. ON THE BACK FIELDS: Yesterday Craig Breslow (2.0 IP, 25 pitches) and Alexi Ogando (1.0 IP, 22 pitches) pitched in a minor league intersquad games on the back fields at the Fenway South Player Development Complex.

BETTS IS ON: Mookie Betts leads the Grapefruit League with 11 extra-base hits, ranks T-2nd with 19 hits, and is 3rd in the GL with 36 total bases…His 11 extra-base hits (7 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR) are the most by any Red Sox in a single spring training since 2010 (Josh Reddick, 12 XBH).

CLAY’S DAY: Yesterday Clay Buchholz was named the Red Sox’ Opening Day starter…He will face Phillies starter Cole Hamels on Monday, 4/6 at Citizens Bank Park…This marks Buchholz’s first such assignment…In past years he has started the club’s second (2013), third (2011-12), fifth (2014), and 6th (2008, 2010) games.
