SHAWN THORNTON ON HIS FIGHT..”IT’S BEEN A WHILE…”

On tonight’s win…

There was a lot of excitement coming into tonight. I couldn’t sleep this afternoon. It felt like we were playing in the playoffs again, it’s been so long. I’m happy Soupy [Gregory Campbell] got some success with that goal, it was a good job stepping up. All around, it was a good job.

On the crowd tonight…

Awesome as always. They’re pretty loud. I’ve never really had any complaints about the Garden crowd, so it was good.

On his fight in the second period with Mike Rupp…

It’s been awhile. I’m sure it’s been awhile for him too. They had just scored, I figured it was just as good a time as any to get the momentum going back the other way, maybe shake off some rust at the same time.

On if he felt the game was sloppy in the first period…

I don’t know, I thought we were pretty good in the first actually. I thought we had a pretty solid period. I mean if you want to look for a negative, sure [laughs].

On if tonight’s game was what he expected in a matchup between the Bruins and Rangers…

Yeah, a close one. Always tight-checking, hard-fought games, so it’s fun to play those guys.

On the Bruins’ stamina as the game wore on…

Looked pretty good. You’re asking the wrong guy here, I played six minutes, so I’m fresh as a daisy. I think for the most part, it looked like guys were still buzzing in the third, and it looked like they had a lot of energy.

On if he was prepared for his fight…

Me and Soupy [Gregory Campbell] messed around for the last week and a half, wrestling on the ice. It’s not something that I really put a lot of thought into, but at the same time, you try to stay on top of it because you don’t want to get hurt either. After sparring and grappling in the summer, and with my linemate in the last couple of weeks, I felt okay. Conditioning-wise, I wasn’t really tired. It’s a lot easier than going twelve rounds.
