GRAPEFRUIT STAND: At 7-3 (.700), the Red Sox own the 2nd-best record in the Grapefruit League, behind only Houston (.714, 5-2)…The Sox are tied with the Yankees for the Grapefruit League lead in wins. Last night’s loss was Boston’s 1st since last Friday vs. MIA, snapping a stretch of 7 straight wins over 6 days…It was Boston’s longest spring training win streak since a 7-gamer in 2009…The club hasn’t produced a longer win streak in spring training since a 9-game tear in 1981 (Source: Bill Nowlin – SABR).

MONCADA SIGNS: Yesterday the Red Sox introduced INF Yoan Moncada (yo-AHN mohn-CAH-dah), a native of Cuba who was signed to a minor league contract on Thursday. The 19-year-old switch-hitter batted .277 (84-for-303), 58 R, 11 2B, 4 3B, 4 HR, 28 RBI, 40 BB, 21 SB, .388 OBP in 101 games over 2 seasons in Cuba’s major league, Serie Nacional, with Elefantes de Cienfuegos…He has been assigned to minor league spring training camp.

YESTERDAY’S NEWS: Yesterday the Red Sox lost a 5-3 decision to the Yankees at JetBlue Park…It was the last of 2 spring matchups between the clubs, with Boston taking their first contest by a 10-6 score on Wednesday in Tampa. Rick Porcello started and allowed 3 runs in 3.0+ IP, with both scoring after he left the game…Dalier Hinojosa (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R/ER, 0 BB, 2 SO) followed and took the loss…Zeke Spruill (1.0 IP), Junichi Tazawa (1.0 IP), and Brian Johnson (2.0 IP) threw scoreless relief, while Edward Mujica allowed 2 runs in the 8th.
