THE SPRING SLATE: Today Boston plays its 19th of 32 major league spring training games in a span of 31 days from 3/5-4/4…The club began its exhibition season with a doubleheader sweep of Boston College and Northeastern University on 3/3. Today marks the club’s 18th day into a span of 21 games in the first 20 days of Grapefruit League action, which began 3/5…This stretch continues until the team’s only Grapefruit League off-day on Wednesday.

GRAPEFRUIT STAND: The Red Sox are 9-8-1 (.529) in Grapefruit League play…They are winless in their last 3 games and have dropped 3 of their last 5 (1-3-1). Boston has won 9 of its last 16 contests beginning with a 7-game winning streak over 6 days from 3/7- 12…It was Boston’s longest spring training win streak since a 7-gamer in 2009…The club last produced a longer win streak in spring training with a 9-game tear in 1981 (Source: Bill Nowlin – SABR).

FIGHTIN’ THE PHILS: Today’s game marks the second of two meetings between the Red Sox and Phillies this spring…Boston lost 11-4 in Clearwater a week ago today. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 1915 season, in which the Red Sox defeated Philadelphia in the World Series, 4-games-to-1.

OPENING DAY PREVIEW: These clubs open their 2015 regular season schedules against one another on 4/6 at Citizen’s Bank Park — 15 days from today — as part of a 3-game series (also 4/8 and 4/9). This will be the first time in 61 years that the Red Sox have opened a season in the City of Brotherly Love… They last did it with a 6-4 loss to the Athletics on 4/13/54, in the last year Philadelphia had an AL team. These clubs will also meet 3 times in Boston from 9/4- 6…Boston leads the all-time Interleague series 31-22.

KNOTTED UP: The Red Sox and Pirates played to a 2-2 tie in 9 innings yesterday in Bradenton…It was the last of 3 spring games between these clubs, with each going 1-1-1. Rusney Castillo led off, going 2-for-3 with a triple…He scored the game’s first run in the 5th on an RBI single by Allen Craig (1-for-3, RBI, BB)…Jackie Bradley Jr. went 2-for-2, 2B, BB…In the 9th inning, Blake Tekotte singled in Quintin Berry for the tying run. Wade Miley started and allowed only 2 hits in 5.0 scoreless innings…Matt Barnes then gave up 2 runs in 1.2 innings…Dana Eveland (0.1 IP), Robbie Ross Jr. (1.0 IP), and Dalier Hinojosa (1.0 IP) did not permit a base runner over the last 2.1 innings.

FROM THE BACK FIELDS: Yesterday Edward Mujica, Junichi Tazawa, Pablo Sandoval, and Christian Vazquez all played in minor league games against Rays farmhands at the Fenway South Player Development Complex. Mujica started for High-A Salem: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO, 13 pitches/10 strikes…Tazawa in the 2nd inning for Salem: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO, 16 pitches/9 strikes. Vazquez played for Salem and caught the first two innings only (Mujica and Tazawa pitching)…At the plate, he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two singles. Sandoval did not play in the field…In five combined plate appearances between Salem (4 PA) and Single-A Greenville (1 PA) he went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles (1-for-4 with Salem, 1-for-1 with Greenville).

BROADCAST NEWS: NESN is televising 12 of Boston’s 34 exhibition games, including today’s game…In addition, 3 remaining games will be carried on national TV between ESPN (3/27) and MLB Network (3/28 and 4/2)…On radio, WEEI will carry a total of 15 games, including today’s game on 93.7 FM…
