RED SOX LOOKING TO REGROUP

RED SOX LOOKING TO REGROUP

YESTERDAY’S GAME: The Red Sox lost to the Rays last night, 6-2, in the opener of a 3-game series and a 6-game season-ending homestand…The Sox led 1-0 before Tampa struck for 5 run in the 8th inning…It was just the 6th time in 56 games this year that Boston lost when leading after 7.
· Clay Buchholz pitched 7.2 innings and allowed 5 runs, all in the 8th inning, on a walk, 2 HBP, a single, and a double…It snapped his scoreless streak against the Rays at 29.0 innings beginning on 4/14/13 at Fenway.
· Yoenis Cespedes singled for Boston’s 1st hit of the game with 2 out in the 4th inning and scored from 1B on Daniel Nava’s double to put the Sox on the board…Mookie Betts doubled and scored on Jemile Weeks’ sac fly to cut the deficit in the 8th inning.

CHRISTIAN’S CANNON: Christian Vazquez has thrown out 14 of 28 attempted base stealers, a 50% success rate…That would be the best single-season mark in club history among catchers with at least 15 games behind the plate.
· The only rookie ever to throw out at least half of the base runners attempting to steal against him in a single season (min. 45 games at catcher) was OAK’s Jeff Newman in 1977, who had a 50% catcher caught stealing rate (27 SB/27 CCS).

ROOKIE ANTHOLOGY: The Red Sox have had 19 different rookies appear in a game this season, the 4th-highest total in team history and their most since 1926 (21 rookies)
