MAY 20th PAWTUCKET (23-17) at INDIANAPOLIS (22-18) 11:05 am
Pawtucket Red Sox LHP Henry Owens (2-2, 3.41) vs. Indianapolis Indians RHP Casey Sadler (3-2, 2.50)
Stats vs. the Indians in 2015 – PawSox batters are hitting .259 in the 5 games vs. Indy thus far (43-for-166) with 1 HR (Bryce Brentz last night). Sox pitchers are 4-1 with a 2.30 ERA (11 ER in 43 IP) without a homer allowed vs. Indianapolis this season.
Pawtucket has out-scored Indianapolis, 18-13. Scoring When it Matters Most – The PawSox have scored 4 runs or less in 19 of their last 25 games since April 25. They are 13-12 in those 25.
Series Business – Pawtucket is 6-5-1 in their first 12 series of the season (6 wins, 5 losses, and 1 split) including two sweeps (a 4- gamer and a 3-gamer) and once getting swept (a 3-game set). Trying to Make Hay in May – The PawSox are 9-9 in May as we are just past the midpoint of the month. They are hitting just .221 this month (138-for-625) with 14 HR and pitchers are 9-9 with a 3.07 ERA in May (58 ER in 170 IP) with 8 HR.
The Road Ahead – Pawtucket’s 7-game roadtrip starts with this 3-game set in Indy and will be followed by a 4-game series in Louisville this Thursday – Sunday nights (Thur. & Fri. at 6:35 and Sat. & Sun. at 6:05 pm).
The PawSox return home on Monday night for a Memorial Day Evening game vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at 6:15 pm. The Sox homestand will feature 3-games vs. the RailRiders (Yankees) next Monday – Wednesday followed by an off-day on Thursday and then a 3-game weekend series vs. Louisville to conclude the month of May (May 29-31).
Good Riddance to Columbus – The PawSox are coming off a 3-4 homestand that began in promising fashion (taking 2 of 3 vs. Indy) and ended on a down note (as the Sox dropped 3 of 4 against Columbus including the final three in a row). Pawtucket is 1-6 vs. Columbus this season (fortunately they are done with the Clippers) and 22-11 vs. the rest of the league.
Threedom – The PawSox had lost 3 in a row to match their longest losing streak of the season prior to their two victories in Indy. Pawtucket also had a 3-game losing streak from May 8-10 (getting swept in a 3-game set at Columbus), but besides those two times they have not lost more than 2 in a row all year. The PawSox had a 3-game winning streak from May 5-7 which was their longest since their season-high 5-game winning streak from April 16-21 (G1). They began the season winning their first 3 games (April 9-11)
Extra, Extra – The PawSox have played a total of 6 extra inning games this season (most in the league) going 2-4 in those. The PawSox have already had a pair of 13-inning games (5-4 win in Lehigh Valley on April 11 and a 6-5 loss vs. Columbus on May 15), a 14-inning affair (4-3 defeat to Columbus on May 16), and a 16-inning game (7-6 loss in Lehigh Valley on April 12).
Last year they did not have a regular-season game go past 12-innings, but they did play a 13-inning game during the Governors’ Cup Finals in Durham (their 4-2 win in 13 in Game 4 to stay alive in that series).
