The Beat Goes On – The Pawtucket Red Sox bid to snap their 4-game losing streak and salvage the finale series in Norfolk when they play game the finaleof their 4-game set today at 12:05 pm at Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA. The PawSox have been beaten by the Tides each of the past three nights by a combined score of 25-7. The Sox also lost the finale of their last series in Durham on Sunday, 3-0 so they have been out-scored 28-7 in their 4-game losing skid following back-to-back wins on Friday and Saturday in Durham. In the past 3+ weeks (since June 29) the PawSox have lost 18 of their last 21 games. Furthermore, since June 2 they have dropped 22 of their last 27 road games to go from a 13-12 away record to a 18-34 road record (second worst in the league to Syracuse at 16-33).
This Series and Roadtrip – Pawtucket is down 3 games to none in this 4-game series in Norfolk and they are 2-5 on this 8-game roadtrip that concludes this afternoon at 12:05 pm at Harbor Park. The Road Home – Pawtucket will return to McCoy Stadium this Friday night to play their first home game in 12 days when they host Buffalo at 7:05 pm to begin a 6-game homestand…three games vs. the Bisons on Friday at 7:05 pm, Saturday at 6:05 pm, and Sunday at 1:05 pm and then – after an off-day on Monday – three more games vs. these Tides next Tuesday & Wednesday at 7:05 pm and then Thursday, July 30th at 12:05 pm.
A Season Low – The PawSox (now at 41-57) are a season-low 16-games under the .500 mark. They had not been 16-under since August 25, 2010 (58-74). Their season-low in 2014 was 4-games below .500. They dipped below the .500 mark this June 4 for the first time in almost a full calendar year since last June 25 when they were 40-41. The 2015 PawSox peaked at a season-high 8-games above .500 at 18-10 on May 7.
Trending Down –The PawSox are 23-47 since they were 18-10 on May 7 and in 1st-place by 2-games. Numbers Game – Norfolk, by virtue of their wins the last two nights, has snuck past the PawSox and out of last-place in the International League in Runs Scored. The PawSox are now last in the league with 353 runs scored while the Tides have 358. The Tides are 3rd in the league in Batting (.262) compared to Pawtucket’s league-worst .236 average. Norfolk’s success this season comes largely thanks to their pitching staff as Tides hurlers lead the IL with a 2.97 ERA. (The Sox are 9th at 3.87).
Trouble Against the Tide – Pawtucket (down 0-3 in the 2015 season-series) has not won a season-series over Norfolk for six years in a row now. The 2008 season (when they went 6-2 vs. Norfolk) is the only time the Sox have beaten the Tides in a season-series in a 9-year span (heading into this year). Overall, Norfolk leads the all-time series by a 314-268 margin.
Roll Tide – Pawtucket finished 4-4 vs. Norfolk last season as the clubs each won 3 of 4 at their home park. From May 30 – June 2 of 2014 the Tides took 3 of 4 from the Sox (Pawtucket did win the series-opener, 7-2) but the Tides won the final three games in a row at Harbor Park as Norfolk won all three games by 3-1 scores. Later in June of last year the PawSox returned the favor in similar fashion as the Tides won the series-opener on June 24, 9-6 in 10-innings but Pawtucket rebounded to take the final three games of the series (16-5, 7-3, and 4-2).
