OTTAWA SENATORS FORWARD JASON SPEZZA
On it not being the kind of game he envisioned…
Yeah it’s obviously an embarrassing game and not the way we wanted to go into the break. Hopefully we can draw from the next time we play these guys.

On the character comebacks the team has stage, and this game leaving a lot to be desired…
Yeah we really were on a very good stretch of hockey here that we’ve played, we’ve played really consistent. It’s a big letdown to have a game like this after going so well and competing so hard for so many games to have a game like this to end it leaves a sour taste in your mouth.

On whether the guys were not prepared to play a game like this…
No I don’t think it was that. I think they get some goals and they got rolling and they start making plays they normally wouldn’t make and it’s a downhill slide when you get down a few goals and the other team starts getting confidence so I don’t think it was lack of preparation.

On their poor play in afternoon games and how it could end up costing the team a playoff spot…
No doubt, yeah, it could. We’ve been terrible in afternoon games. We tried something new again today, we got together as a group this morning and that didn’t work so we won’t be doing that again. We just keep searching and try to figure out why we’re so bad at these games. It’s probably more of a mental block more than anything at this point, but it’s no excuse for how today’s game went.

On what the team did this morning…
We did a little warm up.

On if there’s any explanation for the team’s play in afternoon games…
Yeah it’s probably between the ears a little bit. We’ve had years where we’ve been good in afternoon games and this year we’re probably overthinking it a little too much now and we need to get a win in the afternoon to get rid of that stigma and give us a bit of confidence.

On not having a good effort against a team like Boston and how they could stick it to them quickly…
Well they’re an elite team, there’s a reason why they’re as good of a team as they are and then once the game gets out of hand there now they’re making behind the back passes and seaming everything. The offense you have when you’re up by five is a little different then when it’s a one-goal game so we did it to ourselves and they made us pay.
