Following the announcement by Red Sox manager John Farrell that he has lymphoma, he also informed the media that he needed to step aside from the team at this point to deal with his treatment.
Farrell said the “very treatable” Stage 1 lymphoma was found during a recent hernia surgery. He will begin chemotherapy next week.
Bench coach Torey Lovullo will manage the team for the rest of the season. He took over managerial duties after Farrell’s hernia surgery.
