CLAUDE JULIEN POST GAME

CLAUDE JULIEN POST GAME

BOSTON BRUINS HEAD COACH CLAUDE JULIEN POSTGAME PRESS CONFERENCE

On the Capitals scoring two power plays goals and the Bruins outshooting them, but the players saying there was a lack of a competitive response…
I think we can be, definitely, we can be better – there’s no if’s about that. I think we weren’t completing our plays, and we didn’t seem to be in sync. But at the same time, I thought we came out well. I thought we had a good first period, and we had a power play that had its chances, but we didn’t score. Then they came back and scored a couple goals, and it’s tough in this league to come from behind against a team that was playing well tonight and their goaltender was even better. So we couldn’t get that goal that was going to give us I guess the life that we needed, and he [Braden Holtby] stood tall and they just found ways to get a few more.

On Bobby Robins wanting to play hard, competitive hockey but getting into penalty trouble, and whether he will address that…
Well those are things that I think a coach will deal with internally. I don’t think it needs to be dealt with out here. But we don’t want any bad penalties, and he’s not the only culprit. You know, we took some bad penalties tonight, and against a team like that you can’t.

On whether the recent lineup changes contributed to the team not being in “sync”…
Well I don’t know, I mean we’ve got a lot of new faces in the lineup. But again, it’s not about excuses here, it’s about – right now I think we’re not off to a great start, like even our veteran players aren’t playing well together. So it’s not about just the new faces. We’ve just got to be better in all areas. Tonight you know we talked about points being open a lot – we didn’t use them as much. You know we talked about getting better net-front presence – that wasn’t good enough. You know so we’ve got to be better in a lot of areas, and we’ve got to have a little bit more confidence. Our puck movement right now is very average at best. We know we’re capable of moving the puck a lot better than we did tonight.

On going down two goals and the players saying the push back wasn’t good enough…
Well again, that’s the way they feel, and that’s the way they should feel. We have to be better. So I guess the push back means we have to be better, and that tonight is not the type of game that we’re used to playing.

On whether Alex Ovechkin’s goals were the result of him playing well and finding space or because of break-downs on the Bruins part…
Both.

On whether he feels like he needs to make some changes to the lineup…
Well you certainly have to reevaluate. There’s no doubt there. And you know guys are given chances, and so on and so forth. So you know when you play two games like that you have to reevaluate, and that’s what we’re going to do.
