Chris Kelly likely to have played his final game in Boston, done for the season

Chris Kelly likely to have played his final game in Boston, done for the season

STATEMENT FROM BRUINS GENERAL MANAGER DON SWEENEY REGARDING BRUINS FORWARD CHRIS KELLY

“Chris sustained a left femur fracture in the first period of the Bruins/Stars game on Tuesday, November 3 and was transported to Mass General Hospital. He will undergo surgery on Wednesday, November 4 at Mass General Hospital and his expected recovery time is between six and eight months.”

Chris Kelly’s timing could not have been worse contractually. Kelly will be a free agent at the end of the 2015-16 season. As a member of the teams’ fourth line, Kelly adds depth and stability to a young Bruins team. But realistically, its hard to imagine the Bruins bringing him back next season coming off of his medical situation. In the cap era, its hard to justify paying a 4th line winger $3M per season.
