MAY 14th COLUMBUS (19-14) at PAWTUCKET (20-14) 7:05 pm

Columbus Clippers RHP Jhoulys Chacin (NR) vs. Pawtucket Red Sox LHP Brian Johnson (3-2, 3.03)

Battle of Division Leaders – For the second time in as many chances during this homestand the IL North-leading Pawtucket Red Sox will start a series against the 1st-place team in the IL West when they host the Columbus Clippers for the first of a 4-game series tonight at 7:05 pm at McCoy Stadium. Earlier in the week the PawSox played Indianapolis who came to McCoy on Monday atop the IL West. But by taking 2 of 3 from the Indians, the Sox pushed Indy behind Columbus (by a ½-game) in the West race. In the meantime, the PawSox have kept their lead atop the IL North for the past week (Sox are currently 1-game up on Rochester). Furthermore, when you go back to the final series of their last homestand, the PawSox also played against a division leader as Durham, currently in a virtual tie for 1st in the IL South with Norfolk, took 2 of 3 from Pawtucket from May 1-3.

imageLooking for Some Payback – The PawSox will be looking to extract some revenge from Columbus here at McCoy after getting swept in Columbus last weekend. Pawtucket scored just 3 runs total in losing all 3 games by scores of 7-0, 3-2 (in 10-innings), and 4-1. Their team batting average in the 3-game set was .181 (17-for-94) with 1 HR (Deven Marrero) while Sox pitchers were 0-3 with a 4.32 ERA (12 ER in 25 IP) with 2 HRA against the Clippers.

First to 20 Wins – On Tuesday Pawtucket became the first (and thus far only) team in the International League to reach 20 victories this season (now at 20-14).

This Homestand – The PawSox are 2-1 on this 7-game homestand after settling for taking 2 of 3 from Indianapolis earlier this week. The Sox won the first two games, 6-1 and 2-1 in 10-innings, but dropped the series-finale on Wednesday afternoon, 6-0. The homestand continues tonight with the opener of a 4-game series against Columbus. The teams will also play tomorrow night at 7:05 pm, Saturday at 6:05 pm, and Sunday at 1:05 pm in the series and homestand finale.
