Even Up – The Pawtucket Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings – who have each won a game thus far in this 4-game set – look for the upper hand when they play game three of the series tonight at 7:05 pm at McCoy Stadium. Pawtucket evened matters with a 5-3 victory last night after Rochester took the opener on Monday, 3-2. Both games were tied heading into the 7th-inning. On Monday the Red Wings scored a run in the top of the 7th to snap a 2-2 tie and win, 3-2. Last night the Sox scored twice in the bottom of the 7th to break a 3-3 tie en route to a 5-3 win. The playing time for both games has been 2 hours & 39 minutes. Monday was played without incident, however, last night included a 15-minute rain delay at the start and a 1 hour & 9 minute rain delay in the bottom of the 7th-inning.
Close Encounters – Each of the last five PawSox games have been decided by either 1-run (1-2) or 2-runs (1-1). Furthermore, 13 of the last 14 Pawtucket games since June 9 have been either 1-run or 2-run affairs (the only exception a 15-5 loss in Charlotte on June 18). The Sox are 3-3 in 1-run games and 4-3 in 2-run games during this stretch. Overall, 57% of PawSox games have been decided by either 1-run (13-12) or 2-runs (9-7) thus far this season.
Right Where We Were a Year Ago – The PawSox have reached the halfway point of both their regular-season schedule and their home schedule in virtually the same position they were in last year. The Sox have the exact same record now (35-37) that they had last season at the midpoint when they were 35-37 on June 16, 2014. The Sox were in 3rd-place and -6 GB at the halfway point last year. They are in 3rd-place and -6½ GB now. The PawSox would go 44-28 during the second half of last season to capture the IL wild card and eventually the Governors’ Cup Championship.
