BERGERON WINS FRANK J. SELKE TROPHY AT 2015 NHL AWARDS

Las Vegas, NV – The NHL announced today, June 24, that Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron has been named the winner of the 2015 Frank J. Selke Trophy. The Selke Trophy is awarded annually “to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game”.

Boston-Bruins-LogoThis marks Bergeron’s third overall and second consecutive win for the Selke trophy, which he had won twice previously in both 2012 and 2014.

Bergeron finished the 2014-15 regular season with a league best 60.2 faceoff percentage, marking the second time in three seasons he’s finished atop the league with his 62.1% mark in the 2012-13 campaign. Bergeron now completed back-to-back seasons leading the league in total faceoff wins with this year’s 1,175 and last year’s 1,015.

Bergeron’s 31 faceoff wins on February 22, 2015 against the Vancouver Canucks was the most by any player this season and the most by a Bruins since the stat became available through the NHL scoring system in 1998. His previous high was 27, which came against the Blackhawks on June 12, 2013 in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, while his previous regular season high came on November 15, 2011 against the New York Islanders.

The 29-year-old led the Bruins in point-production with a 55-point output, including 23 goals (second on the team) and 32 assists (tied for first with Dougie Hamilton). Bergeron also led the team in shots with 234.
